There are more instances of the "suck it up" attitude in medicine versus seeing safe, excellent patient care as the overriding guiding principle than I expected.  I think the process is so predicated upon attrition and creating achievement strata that acknowledging any weakness is a mortal sin.  Of course there is the other more sinister side of the coin to giving your patients a sore throat... you are assuring a repeat customer, kind of like how there is a fast food restaurant right in our hospital...
